This October 2022 marked the 22nd annual Dr. Almanzar Foundation Medical Mission trip to The Dominican Republic.
Spired by its president, Dr. Fredy Almanzar, alongside over 50 medical professionals and approximately one hundred volunteers. Some members embarked on an airplane in New Jersey and others joined them in the Dominican Republic.
Jose Julio Peña, one of the foundation’s oldest members, said. “This year was a remarkable year, even though the pandemic has slowed down the number of visitors. This year we helped over 5,000 patients, including internal medicine, 81 surgeries, and 32 external breast prostheses”.
The three-day medical mission took place in the following cities. Dajabon, Loma De Cabrera, and Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. During a stop in the town of Loma de Cabrera, the merengue artist, “Fernandito” Villalona, made a brief stop at the school where the foundation was operating. Mr. Villalona thanked everyone that collaborated and said that the mission was an act of love that he won’t ever forget. Villalona took pictures with volunteers and doctors during the visit to his mountain grounds.
They completed the Mission on Saturday in Monte Cristi. Finalizing the labor by all members. Dr. Almanzar was profoundly thankful to all the participants for working in another exceptional year in giving back to those in less fortunate situations. He said he is humble about how people unite under extreme circumstances. In addition, there is more work to be done in the coming year. We now focus on The Dinner Gala and our exploratory visit to the Punta Cana area, where the next medical mission will operate, he concluded.
